The Progressive Era was a period of widespread social activism and political reform across the United States that spanned the 1890s to the 1920s. The main objectives of the Progressive movement were addressing problems caused by industrialization, urbanization, immigration, and political corruption.

American Populist Movement and Progressive Era The latter part of the 19th century carrying into the first quarter of the 20th century saw the emergence of the Populist movement and Progressive Era; these movements were a response to the changing climate in American society due to rapid industrialization, an ethnically diverse personality of a young nation, and birth of American imperialism.

Progressive Era The progressive leaders led the reform process of the nation’s industrial economy in the early years of the 20th century. Through the antirust acts, inspection acts, and regulations on trading, progressive reformers reshaped the way the economy ran.

The first major reform movement that helped define the Progressive Era was the women’s suffrage movement. Women felt that they had more that they could contribute to society other than making sure the household was run smoothly.

Reformers of the progressive era and the federal government during this era are effective in bringing about reform at the national level due to the establishment of many Amendments and acts along with the presidential decisions in favor of the progressive movement. Although there are some hindrance during the reform movement, the successes overcomes the hindrance.
